The Trojan War Essay 1479 Words 6 Pages Over the past years a lot of archaeological and literary evidence has helped us gain a better understanding of the history of Troy. Much hard work has gone into the excavations there by many archaeologists, and many interesting artefacts have been found.

The Greek forces won the Trojan War. The story of the war is a cornerstone of Greek legend, and pervaded Greek literature and culture. Though the evidence for the Trojan War as historical fact is scarce, it was a formative event in Greek cultural memory, producing some of the classical world’s most famous heroes and narratives.

Historical and Archaeological Evidence for the Existence.

Eric Cline from the George Washington University says “The archaeological and textual evidence indicates that a Trojan War or Wars took place and that Homer chose to write about one or more of them making it into a great ten-year-long saga”. In the Illiad the Trojan War was fought around 1200-1100 BC.The Trojan War is still a mystery to everyone. There is evidence on each side whether there was a Trojan War. There is evidence showing that the Greeks attacked Troy and evidence that they didn’t. There are many things to be learned about the mythological war between King Priam and Agamemnon.In Book 5 and 6, Athena's relationship with the other divinities show her urge to drive change. The Trojan War will result in a new era, but only if she encourages Greek victory. Hence, she enters a strategic partnership with Hera, who works with her against the will of Zeus to overcome the Trojans.


The Trojan War is thought to have taken put close the conclusion of the Bronze Age, around 1200 B.C. It took put around the time that a civilization called Mycenaean thrived in Greece. Royal residences were built and this helped to create a framework of composing evidence for the existence of the War.In and before the 17th century A.D. Many believed that the Trojan war didn’t actually happen and was thought to be just a Greek mythological story until the late 1870’s when a German Archeologist named Heinrich Schliemann excavated the site by using the story of the Trojan war from an ancient Greek writer and poet named Homer.

Written evidence such as the Hittite records and the different theories presented by archaeologists Schliemann, Dorpfield, Blegen and Korfmann strongly suggest the occurrence of a war in troy and have some links to the Iliad.
